Die italienische Formation Violet Tears besteht seit 1998 und wurde ursprünglich von Mitgliedern aus drei unterschiedlichen Dark-Wave¬-Gruppen gegründet. Seit dieser Zeit spielt man regelrnassig ,,Iive” zusammen und kreierte über die letzten Jahre hinweg, was man sich auf der hier voliegenden 6-Track-CD anhören kann... nämlich soliden Wave-Rock mit neoklassischen Einflüssen. Die Stücke werden überwiegend von Gitarre, Bass und Drums dominiert und bestechen durch Carmen De Rosas glasklaren Gesang, der echt unter die Haut geht. Parallelen zu amerikanischen Goth-Bands wie This Ascension sind erkennbar, doch Violet Tears beweisen soviel Eigenständigkeit, dass man hier nicht von Abklatsch sprechen kann und darf. Im Gegenteil, die 6-köpfìge Formation stellt auf ihrem Erstlingswerk eindrucksvoll unter Beweis, dass hier keine Anfänger am Werk waren. Schade, dass “Fragments Of Broken Dreams” nur auf 100 Kopien limitiert ìst, denn selten ist mir in letzter Zeit etwas Ähnliches zu Ohren gekommen. Meine Wertung: 9 von 10 möglichen Punkten.

Ladies and gentleman, this is the sort of stuff that you’d get on 4ad or Tess or so. Violet Tears instead have done it all on their own and, as it seems, they have hit the target, so this six-track demo cd crammed with beauty and melancholy will soon be released on Anaemic Waves Factory, as I’m just informed by the band. Right so, as this amazing combo will move even the most still hearts around with their classy mix of Cocteau Twins-like and classic guitars, lushy synth layered soundscapes, a romantic, decadent, neo-classic attitude and vocals above the threshold of excellence, ethereal by Carmen and passionately warm by Claudio. The six-piece encompasses members of three bands previously operating in Southern Italy and they showcase great harmony in combining their personal musical talents, resulting in an act which seems to be able to arouse intense emotion through their ability to transmit vibrating feelings through their instrument; and which could easily find a smooth way in to the intenational gothic scene. I’m personally hooked on Claudio’s vocals in “Morte a settembre” and “Rivelazioni”, two long pieces evoking beauty and quietness, while the closing “Last agony” is a retro-style instrumental using accordion, piano and strings which is somehow effective in announcing the end of the musical trip opened by the beautiful “Time fades away”. Amazing production, recommended to anybody in search for romanticism and beauty.

Raramente mi è capitato di vedere un gruppo agli esordi sfoderare una maturità ed una preparazione così cristallina. Sarà il fatto che buona parte dei sei componenti dei Violet Tears ha già avuto modo di imbracciare gli strumenti, sarà il fatto che le idee su cosa fare erano chiare fin dall’inizio e nulla era lasciato all’improvvisazione, ma la realtà è abbastanza chiara. A Bari ha visto la luce una formazione che farà parlare di sé. Nati nella primavera del 1998 il gruppo barese si forma riuscendo a coagulare le istanze e le attitudini di persone differenti. L’unione tra Gianluca, Maria Teresa, Claudio Co., Carmen, Claudio Ci. e Carmela ha portato alla creazione di un’entità musicale che si staglia dalle linee seguite dai sei nelle precedenti prove. Il suono dei Violet Tears è malinconico, sognante, triste e nella sua struttura si avverte un qualcosa di monumentale, un qualcosa di granitico nella sua essenza. Non immaginatevi un combo gotico dedito a schitarrate accompagnate dal solito vocione del cantante (anche se il look dei componenti potrebbe far propendere inizialmente per ciò) ma delle sonorità perfette in cui ogni strumento gioca il suo preciso ruolo senza sconfinamenti per creare un intreccio armonico. La lenta e cadenzata batteria si aggancia alle liquide sospensioni delle tastiere che a loro volta preparano la strada a degli accordi di chitarra fluidi e pizzicati, circolari e lievi che fanno da sottofondo all’ethereal voce di Carmen o a quella malinconica di Claudio. I Violet Tears sono quel classico gruppo che può far venire in mente contemporaneamente tanti vecchi ascolti (Cure, Lycia, This Ascension, Strange Boutique, Autumn) ma che poi ti fa accorgere dell’inutilità di tali raffronti visto lo spessore di certi brani. Brani soffusi e romantici, tristi ma solari a cominciare dalla malinconica “Time fades away” per passare al livore crepuscolare di “Wet ground” e “Rivelazioni” ed arrivare al languore di “Morte a Settembre” ed alla macabra disperazione di “Weep of sadness”. Un mio amico ascoltando questo cd mi ha detto: “mi sembra di vivere in un sogno”. E forse è proprio così. Speriamo solo che duri il più a lungo possibile.
